Noretta “Sug” Thiel was known prevalently as Sug (lovingly called Sugar by her father as a young girl). She was born and raised in Boonville, Missouri, and was the daughter of Wilbert and Ottelia Bryan. Sug was the middle of 5 daughters, with a set of older twin sisters (Mary Ford - deceased and Martha Bryan – Raytown) and a set of younger twin sisters (Doris Eagle – Raytown and Doloris Campbell – Kansas City). Sug also has numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country, as well as numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Sug graduated from SS Peter and Paul Catholic School in Boonville in 1950 and went on to earn her associate’s degree in business in Sedalia, Missouri. From there, she was employed by Natkin & Company for many years. She retired and enjoyed traveling with Bud until his death, and then continued to travel with her sisters following his death. Both Sug and Bud always emphasized the importance of education, curiosity, family and faith. They were both very active members of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Kansas City and they supported the parish through volunteer work over many, many years. Sug had a wonderful spirit and personality, knowing no strangers, and anyone who met her was the recipient of her positivity, her caring heart, and kindness.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church - 4 E. 75th St., Kansas City, MO 64114 and/or St. Elizabeth Catholic School - 14 W. 75th St., Kansas City, MO 64114.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and support staff of St. Luke’s Hospital on the Plaza, Neuroscience ICU and Neuro A floor, who cared for Sug throughout her current illness.
