Patrick (Pat) Haake was born to Walter and Mary Lou Haake, the third of ten children. Growing up, Dad and his family were deeply involved at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, where Dad was among the first children to be baptized, and continued to be a member of the parish until it closed, even as his battle with chronic pain kept him from physically being able to attend in the final years. His faith remained a central aspect of his life and a cornerstone of his family.

After graduating from Raytown South High School, Dad joined the Navy and proudly served his country. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned to Kansas City just to turn around and find adventure in Utah by building pools, the beginning of his many interests and pursuits. After several years in Utah, he moved back to Kansas City on his motorcycle in the dead of winter with only the engine to keep him warm. Kansas City is where he found his bride and where his vocation in life truly began.

Dad met his bride in the summer of 1972 and began pursuing our mom, Mary. Dad knew Mary Rose Heydon was the one; however, Mary, with more profound patience than his, turned to prayer to help guide her. With the intercession of St. Therese of Lisieux, she was given roses as a sign to say Yes. They married in the fall of 1977. Dad and Mom immediately started their family, growing into a bustling gaggle of five children.

One of Dad’s proudest moments began with a small custom print shop. He worked diligently to build his business to support his growing family. He was so good that when a customer asked him to design and print cards that looked like money, the federal government showed up and confiscated Dad’s plates.

His greatest treasure was his witness of marriage of forty-seven years, his dedication to his family, and his devotion to Christ through his strong Catholic faith.

Dad was a devoted son, husband, and father. He leaves behind his wife, Mary, and five children, Patrick (Lauryn), Rob (Amber), Tim (Lindsay), Reverend Adam Haake, Katie (Tyler), thirteen grandchildren, Nick, Annie, Emmett, Grant, Evan, Teddy, Blake, Leo, Gus, Ben, Beau, Louie, Thomas and one great-grandchild, Noami.

Our father was a force to be reckoned with; he was fiercely loyal, and he loved all of us deeply. We are better because of him, and we will miss him.
