Richard Allen

October 17, 1937 — October 1, 2022

Richard (Dick) Allen, 85, died on October 1st, 2022, of respiratory failure

A native of Kansas City. MO, Dick spent some years in the Trappist Monastery in Ava, Missouri. To this day he is remembered well by the monks who knew him.

He studied Philosophy and Theology at Rockhurst College, as it was then, with the intention of teaching. But, in the infancy of the computer industry, IBM donated a computer to the college and the bug bit deep. Consequently, Dick changed careers to computers. He worked for IBM in upstate New York, in the computer departments of major companies in the Kansas City area, and spent thirty years in Silicon Valley, California.

Dick had an abiding love of music. He played and composed music for the piano. He also continued throughout his life with the study of his first loves, Philosophy and Theology.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mabel and Fred Allen, and by his twin sisters, Rita and Rosemary.

Dick is survived by his partner of almost three decades, Kevin Mackey, and by lifelong friends who loved him deeply, and will miss him terribly.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Dick at Visitation Parish, Main Street, KCMO, on October 14th at 11:00AM followed by inurnment at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
