Richard Stephen 'Dick' Jordan

December 5, 1944 — August 29, 2015

Richard Stephen (Dick) Jordan, 70, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born on December 5, 1944 to Charles Jordan and Anne McNerney Jordan. He attended Guardian Angels Parish School, DeLaSalle Academy and graduated from Bishop Lillis High School in 1963. In 1966 Dick married Joan Ryan Jordan and they were blessed with two children, Rick and Jennifer. The family enjoyed many happy years as members of St. Elizabeths Parish in Kansas City before moving to Kansas and joining St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Leawood. Dick served in the Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971. He was employed with International Harvesters Corporation where he earned the distinction of Master Mechanic. Dick eventually took a position with Bowen Construction Company where he worked for 28 years on diesel equipment until his retirement in 2012. He was a proud member of the MO-KAN Teamsters Union for over 35 years. Dick loved to repair anything mechanical and had a true passion for cars but he could and would fix anything. "If man made it, Dick could fix it." Dick was a gentle soul with a big heart and was known for his giving spirit. He was a kind, tender and loving person who was exceptionally loyal to family and friends. His touching and skillful wit was enjoyed by all who knew him. He always had a joke to share and was famous for his knack of turning a common phrase into a hilarious and one-of-a-kind "Dick-ism." If there is one word that would describe Dick Jordan it would be "decent" because his life exemplified decency. Dick leaves his wife of 49 years, Joan Ryan Jordan, his children, Rick (Kim), Jennifer (Marc) Loe, and his beloved granddaughters, Lizzie and Josie Jordan and Molly and Ellie Loe. He also leaves brothers, Gene Jordan and Kevin (Sheryl) Jordan and sisters, Charlene Jordan and Jeannine Jordan Bohannan as well as many friends who will without a doubt cherish his beloved memory. The rosary will be said on Friday, September 4, at 5:00pm. The visitation will follow until 7:00pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 5, at 11:00am. Both services will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church14251 Nall Avenue, Leawood, Kansas. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to The Little Sisters of the Poor or The Salvation Army.
