Rita Louise Mills

Rita Louise Mills, 79, died peacefully in her sleep on August 5th, 2017. Rita was born July 28, 1938 in Kansas City, MO to John Thomas Currigan and Beatrice Cecilia Graf.
She attended Visitation Catholic School and graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1955. She worked as a secretary at Great West Life Insurance prior to her marriage to John Mills in 1960. They moved to Omaha in 1961 to raise their two children, Lisa and Mike. In 2002, the moved back to the Kansas City area to enjoy retirement and to be closer to their family. Rita always spent time volunteering in her community. Since moving back to Kansas City, she volunteered at Deanna Rose Childrens Farmstead, St. James Place, and Meals on Wheels.
Rita is survived by her husband of 57 years, John; her son, Mike; her daughter Lisa Bauer and husband John; and grandchildren, Katie, Matthew, Meagan, and Joshua. She is also survived by her sister, Marge Carpenter and husband Bill, and sister, Chris Keen and husband Steve.
A Special thanks to the staff and nurses at Foxwood Springs Senior Living for their care and support, and to Crossroads Hospice for their continuous presence and guidance during Ritas last days.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 9, from 10:30 to 11:30 am with the rosary prayed at 11:30. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 pm at Saint Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd, Kansas City, MO 64131. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. James Place c/o Bishop Sullivan Center, 3936 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO 64110.
