Robert Joseph McDonald passed away December 9, 2016 in Overland Park, KS. Bob was born to Beulah Adeline Bury McDonald and Leo Joseph McDonald in Kansas City, MO November 27, 1934. Bob spent the first 10 years of his life growing up in St. Joseph, MO. When he was 10 the family moved to Kansas City, MO where he lived in the Marlborough area attending St. Augustine Catholic School and Hogan High School. He attended KU and Penn Valley College. Bob joined the Kansas City Fire Dept. in 1960 retiring in 1985 as a Battalion Chief. He also worked for Diocese of Kansas City St. Joseph, programming and running their first computer system and as a manager for the Catholic Cemeteries. He also was a Kansas City Star paper carrier owning a route in Grandview, MO for many years. Bob married the love of his life, Judith Ann Lewis, on December 10, 1960. They shared 56 wonderful years together. Bob loved to travel the world and shared the travel bug with his family. He was an Army Veteran and spent several years stationed in Schwabach, Germany. Bob was a diehard KU basketball Jayhawk fan and shared this passion with Judy, his children and his grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Beulah, his brother James McDonald, infant son John Samuel McDonald and grandson Christopher Michael Lomonte. He leaves to mourn his passing, his beloved wife Judy McDonald, his daughters; Kathy Parrick (Jeff) of Peculiar, MO, Rhonda Batholomei (Divin) of Lees Summit, Pamela Fessler (John) of Lees Summit, and Mitzi Lomonte (Tom) of Kansas City, He also leaves his grandchildren; Brian West (Claudia) and their children, Keegon, Brenna and Elizabeth, Crystal Thompson (Joe) and their children, Alexis and Matthew, Tommy Lindly (Shelby) and their children, Deja, Keaton and Kooper, Jake Zuyendorp (Angie) and their children, Chandler and Landon, Jenna Haight (Larry) and their son, Levi, Alex Fessler (Alicia), Andre Fessler, Gregory Fessler, Nick Lomonte and his children, Amelia and Carson, and Joshua Lomonte (Jenna) and their daughter, Izzy as well as a brother, Richard McDonald (Linda) of Lees Summit and sister-in-law, Martha McDonald of Camdenton, MO. He also leaves his beloved dog Maggie who will miss him very much.
