Robert Sowders

On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, Robert J. Sowders, a loving father of two, passed away at age thirty-six. Robert, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Frank Gutierrez, faithfully served his country in the United States Army for nearly five years. During this time he was deployed to multiple combat zones where he assumed the role of a combat medic. While in combat, Robert was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. Ultimately, the physical and mental injuries he sustained in combat were carried with him through his life.

Robert was fiercely passionate about multiple topics such as science, science fiction, action movies, veteran culture, punk rock and politics. At any given time, he was willing to debate his stance on any or all of these topics. A conversation with Robert could cover anything from the original StarWars Trilogy to a recently published medical journal or any topic that he may have found an interest in that week. Robert’s incredible intelligence always left him searching out new and interesting topics to study up on.

Robert is preceded in death by his grandparents, Frank and Margaret Gutierrez, and Glenn and Katherine Sowders. He is survived by his two children Daniel and Dagny Sowders, his wife Catherine Sowders, his parents James Sowders and Jacqueline Linder, and his two siblings Robin Fisher and Richard Sowders. Memorial Services for Robert James Sowders are on Monday, November 28th, 2022. Services will take place at Muehlebach Funeral Care at 6800 Troost Ave. KC MO 64131. The Visitation will take place at 11:00 AM followed by the Funeral at 12:00 PM.
