Rosemarie Ratkey, 91, passed away May 1, 2023. Born February 15, 1932 in Kansas City, KS to John and Rose (Sachen) Plavan, Rosemarie grew up in Kansas City, KS where she graduated from Wyandotte High School. Rosemarie married Leo Ratkey on November 15, 1952. They moved to Raytown, MO in the early 60’s with their three boys. Rosemarie worked at Sears Catalog Store in Raytown for many 20 years. She later was employed by Burns & McDonnell Engineering Company where she enjoyed handling the travel arrangements for the employed engineers. Rosemarie was a devout Catholic, a former member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church and St. Matthew Apostle Church where she served as a eucharistic minister, a member of the funeral luncheon group, and the quilting group with many long-time friends. Rosemarie also enjoyed volunteering at Research Hospital for many years. She always stated that she really wanted to be a nurse.
Rosemarie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 66 years, Leo Joseph Ratkey; a brother, Johnnie Plavan, Jr, and a sister, Irene Macek. She is survived by her sons, Gary A. Ratkey and wife Lynn, Randy L. Ratkey and wife Kris, Ron M. Ratkey and wife Cindy; Grandchildren: Megan, Kyle, Lauren, Jacqueline, Grace, Claire; Great Grandchildren: Chace, Charlotte, Colton; and her sister, Velma Wing.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am, Saturday, May 13th at Coronation of Our Lady Church, 13000 Bennington, Grandview, MO. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11:00 am. A luncheon will follow the mass. Interment will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, KS. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Catholic Education Foundation, 12615 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, KS or at cefks.org
