Ruth Catherine Kendall, 87, passed away at St. Lukes Hospice House, KCMO, on October 12, 2016. Born to Victor Heins and Caroline (Lena) Steinbrueck on July 10, 1929, Ruth was raised in Blackburn, Missouri, where she graduated from Blackburn High School in 1947 and then moved to Kansas City to attend business college. Her working career was spent at several companies where she worked as a secretary. A lifelong Lutheran, Ruth was a faithful and active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, KCKS. Ruth also enjoyed her community volunteer work at the Shepherds Center and The Toy and Miniature Museum of Kansas City. She loved to travel and was proud that she had been able to visit 48 of our 50 states. Ruth was an exceptional self-taught artist who generously shared her paintings with family members. With great pride, she was able to have several paintings auctioned during the annual Alzheimers Association "Memories in the Making" art show and fund raising event.
Ruth was preceded in death by both parents, her husband, Victor Kendall, as well as her brother, Louis Heins, and sisters Pearl Heins and Caroline Heins. She is survived by nieces, Janet McCarter, Mission Woods, KS and Diane Shepherd, Alamo, CA, and great nephews Matthew McCarter and John McCarter. Her stepdaughter, Daurice Duane Duke, Irmo, SC also survives. In addition to family, Ruth will be missed by cousins and friends.
