Ruth Ruby Grayson Mora

September 7, 1920 — March 30, 2016

Ruth Ruby Grayson Mora was born on September 7, 1920 in Haskell, Oklahoma to Edmond Grayson and Ida Gross-Lang. At the age of 7, her family moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she attended Cooper School. She met John Vivian Mora and in November 1941, they married. Together, John and Ruth had John Vivian, Jr., Alexander William, and Jessie Lynn. John brought into the marriage her step-daughter, Ramona.Ruth worked for many years for Ford Ideal Laundry. She had a passion for cooking. While raising her children, she was the cook for Immaculate Conception Cathedral Catholic Grade School for several years. She was also an active member of the PTA and Altar & Rosary Society. She chaperoned and cooked for school picnics, dances, and various functions for the Catholic Youth Organization. After leaving the school, she went to cook for the priests at the rectory. Later, she had a restaurant called "Ruthie's" downtown on 19th & McGee. She cooked both Mexican & American cuisine and served a diverse community. She retired from cooking, for the general public, at Miss Helen's Lounge in 1989. However, her love of cooking never let her slow down cooking for family & friends for holiday meals and weekend get togethers.She is preceded in death by her husband, John Vivian, Sr., her son John Vivian Jr., her step-daughter Ramona. She leaves behind many to celebrate her long life; her son Alex and wife Marilyn, her daughter, Jessie Simms and husband Gary, and many, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.There will be a Celebration of Life Visitation on Sunday, April 3 from 2:00 - 4:00 with Funeral Service on Monday, April 4 at 10:00 at the Muehlebach Funeral Chapel at 6800 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri. She will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery immediately afterwards.
