Sandra Marie (Schroer) Woollen died on August 4, 2024. She was the daughter of Gary and Phyllis Schroer and was born in Rochester, New York. Sandie and her parents returned to Kansas City when she was very young as her father returned to work at the family business. She attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Loretto Academy High School and graduated from Avila College (University) in 1965.
She worked in the Kansas City Public School District in various jobs as her two sons attended J.C. Nichols, Hartman, Hale Cook, and Marlborough Elementary Schools. She was the first PTA president for the Southwest Elementary Cluster in 1977. She later worked for a children’s clothing salesman doing office work, was an office manager for a portrait studio and worked in a children’s consignment shop before retiring.
She loved traveling, especially with family and friends. Disney World, Legoland, Montreal and various trips allowed her to spend time with her family and 3 grandchildren. Sandie could always be heard saying, “I love being Grandma!” She went on several cruises, with Alaska being one of her favorite locations. Lake Tahoe was her all-time favorite location, with all the mountains and beauty, she went there numerous times with sister-in-law Jerri. She loved making scrapbooks to help relive the moments from each trip. She also found time to sew, collect Precious Moments, be the block mother, including organizing the neighborhood Christmas luminaries, volunteer at church and go out to lunch and shop with countless friends.
She is predeceased by her parents, and her beloved dog Holly. She is survived by her two sons: Anthony (Krista) of Olathe, KS and Michael (Cynthia) of Tampa, FL; three grandchildren: Clayton of Overland Park, McGuire of Tampa, and Bella of Olathe; her brother Jim (Jerri) of Overland Park, two nephews and 4 great nephews.
She was a devout Catholic and a very active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Meyer and Holmes Rd, KCMO.
In lieu of flowers, she has requested donations be sent to St. Peter’s Endowment fund or Avila University, 119th & Wornall Rd, KCMO or the Center for Dementia Research.
