Robert "Bob" was born on Feb. 8, 1920 in Kansas City. He grew up at 26th & Madison by Sacred Heart Church (next door to Boulevard Brewery). His parents owned and operated a grocery store at 26th & Summit (across from Roasterie Coffee). Bob attended Sacred Heart grade school and Manuel High School. He worked for Columbia Steel Tank before his 10 years of service in the Marine Corps. Bob was a decorated veteran having served in WWII and the Korean War. When he returned home, he spent his career working for Bendix, Westinghouse, and Western Electric taking care of the physical plants he could fix anything!
Our family was very close knit, always spending weekends and holidays together; eating, playing poker and visiting over a few beers. Bob took a special interest in caring for his mother and his siblings during their illnesses before they passed. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and the lake.
I want to thank everyone who took care of Bob while he was sick, especially his physician, Dr. Bernard Judy, all of the staff, nurses, and hospice team at the Atriums and Stratford Commons of Overland Park. These people took care of him and others with skill and a loving heart. I also want to thank Bobs close friends for visiting him during his illness.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, William and Agnes (Humphrey) Kirchner; siblings, Bill Kirchner, Nell Cullen, Jack Kirchner, Marie Jackson and Anita Yates. He is survived by two nieces, Barbara Bonner & Roberta Zaner; and two nephews, Jim Brown & Fr. Don Cullen.
