Susan Marie Rowland, 83, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away on December 23, 2023.
Susan was born to William and Nancy Abboud in Omaha, Nebraska. After she graduated from Lillis High School in 1958, she married Patrick Rowland and started their family. Patrick and Susan went on to have five daughters.
Susan was a faith-filled woman and very involved in the Catholic Church. For ten years, she and Patrick opened their home to 16 Birthright girls, showing support and compassion through their pregnancies. Susan’s big heart for others showed in the way she never met a stranger, invited everyone in as family, and unconditionally loved others. Her loud, Lebanese, boisterous personality and contagious laughter drew others in to share in her joy for life. She enjoyed spending time with her family, lunching with friends, playing cards and games, and watching Hallmark movies. Susan’s 65 year marriage to Patrick was a shining example of faith, commitment, and love to all those who knew them.
Susan was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and Siti. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nancy Abboud, her sisters, Rita Schrempp and Judy DiBella, and her brothers-in-law, George Schrempp and Paul Lenihan. She is survived by her husband, Patrick Rowland, five daughters, Lisa (Keith) Madsen, Laura (Alan) Portis, Diane Timmerman, Dana (Gregg) Artley, and Claudia (Scott) Huse, 31 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, two sisters, Marilyn Abboud and Mary Kay Lenihan, brother, Bill Abboud, and brother-in-law, Gene DiBella.
Services will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Friday, January 5, 2024. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and the funeral Mass at 11:00 am. The family welcomes donations in memory of Susan to Birthright of Greater Kansas City, MO (6309 Walnut Street, KCMO 64113, 816-444-7090).
