Suzanne Loseke Meyers

December 1, 1953 — September 10, 2014

Suzanne Loseke Meyers, 60, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, at St. Luke?s Hospital, after a nearly year-long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones.

Born Suzanne Kay Loseke on December 1, 1953, in Columbus, NE, Sue was high school valedictorian in Waverly, NE, a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences and law school at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, and one of the first female attorneys at Shugart, Thomson and Kilroy in Kansas City. She met Martin Mark Meyers, the love of her life and her future husband, in litigation arising out of the Hyatt skywalk collapse. She left the full-time practice of law upon the birth of their first child, and dedicated the remainder of her career to the nurture and education of her four children.

Sue possessed a quiet confidence and humility along with quick wit and determination. She embraced everyone with acceptance and an open heart. Active in Visitation Church, she taught in the School of Religion and assisted with First Communion preparation. Sue was beloved by all who knew her. After being diagnosed with cancer, she fought for life for eleven months without complaint. When the end came, she accepted death with courage and love rooted in her deep faith.

Sue is survived by her mother, Marylyn Loseke Bicknell and her father, Jerald Loseke; her husband, Marty; her children, Adam, Eric, Kaitlin and Molly; her siblings, Teresa Griess, Kevin Loseke and Brent Loseke; and by other friends and family too numerous to mention.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 12, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, where the rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 13, also at Visitation Catholic Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bishop Sullivan Center or Legal Aid of Western Missouri.
