Thomas E. "Tom" Walsh, 86, passed away November 14, 2014. Visitation will be held at 3:30 pm, Tuesday, November 18th at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 4101 E. 105th Terr., Kansas City, MO 64137, where the rosary will be prayed at 6:15pm. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 7:00 pm. Private interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Parish.
Tom was born April 17, 1928 in Kansas City, MO to Thomas C. and Nora T. Walsh. He graduated from Glennon High School before his Army entrance and overseas assignment of Japan Occupation. Upon his return Tom re-enrolled at Rockhurst University. Tom married Liz (Hopen) on July 23, 1949. He completed his MA at the University of Kansas and was employed as a social worker for the Dept. of Social Security. Tom?s military commitment included active duty and various reserve assignments including the US Marine Corp. He held all enlisted ranks including MSGT and later 2nd Lt. Commission; retiring as Lt. Colonel with 42 years, receiving the 2nd highest military peace time award for his NATO involvement.
Tom was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus O?Hara Chapter, a member and past president of the Serra Club of Kansas City and served on the International Board of Serra International. Tom is survived by his wife of 65 years, Liz; children, Kathleen Heydon (Mike), Patty Freemyer (Jim), Michael Walsh (Danise) Susan Manfredi (Mike), Noreen Walsh, Kevin Walsh (Sharon) and Tim Walsh; 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary C. Groditski.
