Thomas L. Nations, 83 of Gladstone, MO, passed away February 11, 2017 at his home. Visitation will be at 10:00AM Saturday, February 25 at Metro Baptist Church, 3400 NE 80th St KCMO.Tom (Tommy) was born April 16, 1933, the son of Oscar and Sylvia (Piercey) Nations in Kansas City. After high school, he was drafted, and served in Korea until 1955. When he returned he married his sweetheart, Margaret (Margie) Esther McLean, and they started their family. He graduated from Finlay Engineering College in March 1960, and started his career at Kansas City Power and Light, where he retired from in 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and his wife of 51 years. His survivors include two children, Vanessa (Doug) Schindler and David (Sandy) Nations; five grandchildren, Melissa Hobbs (Whitmore), Christina Hobbs, Lindsey Nations, Alex Nations and Jessie Drake; three great-grandchildren, Troy Whitmore, Wesley McMahan and Jaxon Martin. He also left one sister, Peggy Oetting, and sister-in-law Patti (Steve) Philpot. He left nieces, Lara (Troy) Diehl, Regina Oetting, Denise (Dwight) Freeman, Rachel (John) Ellison, Becky Mallas, and nephews Peter (Karen) Oetting, Zach Gibson and Nick Philpot, great-nieces Megan Gibson, Madison Diehl, Sydney Diehl, and great nephew Kaiden Diehl. He enjoyed extensive traveling and was very creative, completing many wood-working, carving, and stained glass projects.Tom was a loving, strong, Christian family man who always tried to lead by example. Memorial contributions may be given to his church -Metro Baptist Church, or one of his favorite charities: City Union Mission, Rachel House (Pregnancy Center), Thru the Bible Ministries, Campus Crusade for Christ.
