Virginia Dare Fulton, 80, departed this life July 24, 2015. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 75th and Main, Kansas City, MO at 10:00 A.M. Thurs. July 30, Visitation will be at the church Wed., the 29th with a prayer service starting at 6:00 P.M. Interment in St. Bartholomew's Cemetery, Murrayville IL. The family suggests memorial donations to the Bishop Sullivan Center, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, or other charity. Virginia was born Nov. 19, 1934 at Marble Hill, Bollinger County, MO, youngest child of Henry Allen and Nora (Limbaugh) Fulton. She attended initially the 1-room Shrum School near her parents' farm, and later grade schools in Cape Girardeau and Oran MO, and Oran High School. She graduated (Magna Cum Laude) with a B.S. in Education in 1956 from Southeast Missouri State University. She then earned a M.S. Educ. (1958) and Certificate of Specialization (1959), both in Guidance and Counseling, at the University of Missouri - Columbia. She also obtained (1987) a M.A. in Reading Education from UMKC. Virginia married Edward William Lawless, Ph.D., of Murrayville IL on June 6, 1959 in St. Charles, MO. They had six children and enjoyed 56 yrs together. She worked as a counselor at schools in St. Charles MO and North Kansas City MO, then as a substitute teacher in the Kansas City MO School District for over 15 years. She also worked for over 15 years as a voting place judge for the Jackson County Election Board. At St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and School, she was a lector, led Cub Scouts program for 10 years, taught "Great Books" classes, and assisted senior citizens in getting to church. She enjoyed reading, history, and visiting museums with Ed and the children. She was a member of, the League of Women Voters, the Community Church Organization, and the International Reading Association. Virginia was preceded in death by: her parents; son, Paul Dwight; brother Wm. Dwight Fulton; sisters Oma M. Barber, Wilma I. Robinson, Wanita A. Shue; brothers-in-law A. Quinton Robinson, and Robert Shue, and niece, Linda Sue Piltz. She is survived by: her husband, Ed; daughter, Donna Noreen Newell (Charles); sons, Kevin William, Vincent Allen, Sean James, and Patrick Edward (Valerie) Lawless; sister Henrietta Hudman; brother-in-law Roy M. Barber Sr., M.D.; granddaughter Virginia Jane Newell; and grandson Paul John Lawless. Also: nephews and nieces, Roy M. Barber, Jr. (Elise), Mark F. Loyd (Sonja), April Barber, Ph.D., Eric L.(Wendy) and Brian L. Piltz, Ph.D, and Michael, Kimber and Nicholas Loyd.
