Virginia was born on October 3, 1936 in Kansas City, MO to Charles and Edna (Cravens) Sandy. She lived her entire life in Kansas City, attending Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and Bishop Lillis High School. She worked as an office administrator and bookkeeper, with the majority of her career spent at Littlefield Eye Associates and Utilicorp. After retiring, she enjoyed volunteering at the Shepherd Center and St. Joseph Medical Center, as well as taking writing classes. Several of her short stories about growing up in Kansas City were published in the "Remember When" column of the Kansas City Star. She was an avid reader, a talented storyteller, and a loyal KC Royals fan. She was also the consummate vacation planner who wasn't afraid to drive anywhere with three kids in tow. A highlight of most trips was the hotel pool and her annual trip down the slide, life jacket on and nose plugged. Above all, she was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother, Charles Sandy, Jr., and her infant son, Joseph. She is survived by her three daughters, Julie (Roy) Curtis, Peggy Laches, and Anne (Paul) Pautler, all of Kansas City, sisters Marian (Bob) Watkins of Overland Park, KS and Norma Brennan of Edina, MN, grandchildren Michele (James) Burton, Louie Curtis, Beth (Dylan) Belk, Tommy Laches, Katie Pautler, Ben Pautler, Joe Pautler, and Hallie Pautler, and great-grandchildren Jaimelyn Burton, Madelyn Burton, and Woody Burton, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Virginia's family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Rd., Kansas City, MO 64138. Thank you to the Sisters for their loving care of VIrginia during her time there.
