William C. 'Bill' Cahill

William C. "Bill" Cahill, 81 of Kansas City, MO passed away December 18, 2014. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm, Monday, December 22nd at Muehlebach Funeral Care, 6800 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO and 10:00-11:00 am, Tuesday, December 23rd at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Interment will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to American Cancer Society.

Bill was born and raised in Shanagolden, County Limerick, Ireland to Bridget Liston and Daniel Cahill, on a family farm with nine siblings. Since he wasn?t the oldest son, he wouldn?t inherit the farm. With there being no other opportunities in Ireland, in 1954 he decided to go to America "where the streets were paved with gold, to get rich." He moved in with a relative, Mary Walsh, and her family in Kansas City. He joined the Air force in 1956 and served four years in order to earn his U.S. citizenship. He completed his military duty in 1960, returned to Kansas City and joined the police department. He served as a policeman for 25 years, in that time marrying Mary Ann Woodruff and raising three children, Leanne, Dan and Mary Kay. He enjoyed spending time with his nine grandchildren. Bill was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Knights of Columbus, St. Thomas More Parish and More Friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Cahill; sisters, Nellie Doherty, Sr. Maureen Cahill, Bridie McElligott and Margaret Dodge; brothers, James Silvester, Donie and Michael J. Cahill. Survivors include his children, Leanne Fitzgerald and husband Tim, Dan Cahill and wife Paige, Mary Kay Majors and husband Rocky; grandchildren, Kyle Fitzgerald and wife Samantha, Erin Bell and husband Matt, Anne Marie Mattli and husband Paul, Maggie Fitzgerald, Ashley, Connor and Colin Cahill, Jake and Emily Majors; a sister, Sr. Elizabeth Cahill; a brother, Patrick Cahill; several nieces and nephews.
