William 'Herb' Holmes

Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6 at Visitation Catholic Church, 5141 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64112. Lunch to follow immediately after mass. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Sullivan Center St. James Place/Community Kitchen, 3936 Troost, KCMO 64110. Herb was born March 10, 1939, the son of John and Eunice (Skaggs) Holmes in Marshall, MO. He graduated from Glennon Catholic High School located on Hardesty. Herb married his wife of almost 55 years, Barbara, in St. Stephens Catholic Church on August 27, 1960. Herb and Barbara shared a wonderful life around the world in his work for 31 years with Johnson Controls. Herb served as a Eucharistic Minister with St. Lukes Hospital and was quite involved with his church, Visitation and with St. James Place/Community Kitchen for many years. Herb was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bernie Holmes and a sister, Martha Jean Rooney and her husband, Bill. He is survived by his wife, Barbara and their one son, David and his wife, Holly and two grandchildren; David Hunter and Lindsey Anne. He is also survived by his brothers: Dan and his wife, Judy of KCMO; Robert and his wife, Judy of Annapolis, MD; Tommy and his wife Mary Lou of KCMO; Jim and his wife Janet of KCMO; Mike and his wife Toni of Sugarcreek, MO; Tim and his wife Janice of Council Bluffs, IA. His sisters: Barbara Ann Raveill and her husband Freddy of Independence, MO; Mary Jane Zych and her husband John of KCKS, and numerous nieces and nephews. Herb is also survived by Barbaras only sister, Nancy Laws who recently was severely injured in a car accident in California. Barbara and Herb spent several months in California recently tenderly caring for Nancy after her accident. Condolences may be left for the family at www.muehlebachchapel.com
