William W. Farnen

William White Farnen, age 91, died on August 1, 2015. He was born November 12, 1923, in Montgomery City, MO to Frank and Mary Farnen. Bill graduated from Southwest High School in 1941. Following graduation from the University of Illinois in 1944, he served in the Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant. On September 20, 1952, he married Eileen Seck. Bill spent his career in the family business, Frank J. Farnen & Co., with his father and his brother, Jim, trading grain at the Kansas City Board of Trade. After he retired in 1992, he traveled to Poland and helped start a grain exchange there at the behest of the president of General Mills.Bill was a member of St. Elizabeth's parish. For over 20 years, Bill was a regular volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital, logging 3,845 hours of service. Bill will be remembered by those to whom he quietly and graciously extended his helping hand. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen and Roger, and their wives Kristin and Helene; two daughters, Caroline (Ward) Evers and Linda Stryker and their husbands, Duane and Ted; four grandsons and two granddaughters; a brother, Jim and his wife Louise; and a sister, Mary K. Riley. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lucy Wade.Services will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 2 East 75th Street, Kansas City, MO 64114, followed by a gravesite burial at Resurrection Cemetery, 8321 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS. Friends are welcome to visit the family on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's honor to Little Sisters of the Poor, 8745 James A. Reed Road, Raytown, MO, 64138.
